FAMILY DAYS OUT: BEACH WITH THE KIDS
Family days out are sometimes stressful and I’m sure at some point during the day we, as parents, wonder why we got ourselves into this situation. However, at the same time they’re so much fun and memories that our kids will remember forever.
I’m pretty sure there were cheers across the country when it was announced we were allowed to meet family members outside again.
Pass the kids over to the grandparents so they can pick up the slack for the next 4 months while we hibernate!
We’ve waited a bit longer because L was still so new but FINALLY – I can take the boys to see our parents and have a break!
Currently sat in my dads sunny garden with a cold drink in complete silence while they’re all off to the park – absolute bliss!
Anyway, enough of my peaceful kid free time – let’s get to what you came here for.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a family of 2, 3, 4 or 6. This day out will still only cost you £40 or less – great right?
If you want to have a fun beach day like we did you can book the beach hut here.
WHERE DID WE GO?
For our family day out we hired a beach hut at Holland-on-Sea and spent the day at the beach.
I would recommend it to anyone.
I know what you’re thinking.
Why pay for a beach hut when the beach is free?
As far as family days out go hiring a beach hut is so much easier than going to the beach for the day, especially if you have really little ones that you don’t want to get too much sun exposure.
- A place to keep our food cool.
- Somewhere secure to dump all of our stuff.
- A shaded day bed for Finley to sleep in.
- Somewhere away from the sun to eat lunch.
- Somewhere to hide if it started to rain.
- A place we can hide for a while if the beach got too busy.
- A break from the sun.
The best part about it is that we were on the beach so not only did we get a great view but A could play in the sand and we could easily keep an eye on him from the hut.
WHY SHOULD YOU HIRE A BEACH HUT?
The three main reasons that renting a beach hut is so worth the money are;
KEEP THE KIDS OUT OF THE SUN
Even though we don’t quite get Sahara scorchers here in the UK it can still get pretty hot.
L is new-ish baby and Jacob has Luke’s sensitive skin so I need somewhere with shade – not much of that on the beach!
The hut provided somewhere for L to sleep and for A to get some respite from the sun when I felt he needed a little break.
Plus this is England, it could rain at any second (this is what happened to us – raining on arrival, blue skies an hour later) no matter how sunny it is so we had protection from this too!
IT’S EASY TO SOCIAL DISTANCE
The beaches are packed sweaty and stressful at the best of times (I can tell I’m really selling you on this beach idea!) but with COVID-19 going around (and probably here to stay) the thought of sitting on a beach towel (probably) less than 2 meters away from some random person makes it worse.
Renting a beach hut means we can have our own space to escape from people, the sun, or to use as a secure place to dump all of our stuff.
Top Tip: take either some beach shoes or shoes you can get wet as although there is sand at the top of the beach, once you get to the sea it is all stones – glass shard-like, feet ripping stones.
IT’S A CHEAP DAY OUT THAT THE KIDS WILL LOVE
Family days out are for the kids, right?
I mean, I enjoy taking the boys out because they enjoy it and I love seeing them happy, but I would rather be sitting at home sunbathing in the garden with a cocktail.
Let me tell you, the look on A’sface when he saw the tiny house we were staying in for the day was priceless.
He wanted to sleep there!
I would recommend this to anyone.
It’s so much easier than going to the beach for the day and there are so many benefits to hiring one,

WHAT TO DO AT THE BEACH
WHAT DID WE DO THERE?
When you rent the hut it’s from 9am – 6pm, so pretty much all day. That is 9 hours so less than £4 an hour.
Getting children ready for a specific time is almost impossible so chances of you arriving at 9 are pretty slim.
We got there at 10/10.30ish after we had parked the car and walked up the beach.
After playing in the sand and paddling for most of the morning it was time for our picnic in the hut.
We spent the afternoon collecting shells, playing with the toys provided with the hut, practising writing his name in the sand, and playing in the sea I got some great quality time with A.
HOW MUCH DID IT COST?
As you may have guessed from the title our beach family day out cost less than £40, £35 to be exact as this is how much it costs to rent this beach hut.
I was really surprised at this as I had always assumed this would be closer to £100 and had never even looked into renting one until my Mum told me about it.
